Whiplash Clinic FAQ

I am already seeing a physiotherapist for my injuries. Why do I need to see another one?

At the MVC Clinic, our physiotherapist conducts a thorough assessment of your physical condition, including strength, range of motion, reflexes, sensations, and movement patterns. Based on this assessment, they update your rehabilitation program to suit your current needs. Many patients we see have reached a recovery plateau after receiving passive treatments, such as TENs and heat/ice therapy, and benefit from an active rehabilitation program focused on appropriate strengthening. If recommended by a physician specializing in MVC injuries, pain management interventions are considered, with the physiotherapist ensuring that targeted areas are adequately prepared. Diagnostic imaging, surgical reports, and consultation notes are reviewed to assist in the assessment process.

Is there a cost to attend the MVC Clinic?

There is a cost to attend the MVC Clinic assessment, however, if you have an open mvc claim we will work with your insurance company and/or lawyer to have them cover the cost. If funding is unavailable the patient is responsible to cover the cost of the clinic. We are able to direct bill most extended healthcare benefit plans.

Do I need to stop seeing my regular physiotherapist once I attend the MVC Clinic?

If you are satisfied with your current physiotherapist, we are more than happy to have them continue with them and will forward all of the reports we generate along to them and any other provider you would like kept in the loop. The information we provide will help them better navigate your care..

How many follow up appointments are required?

The amount and frequency of follow up appointments required are determined on a case by case basis. Depending on the treatment path a patient takes through the clinic, typically 2-6 follow up appointments are attended. This is not inclusive of dedicated physiotherapy appointments attended at Vivo Cura Health, if required.

Is an MRI needed prior to attending the clinic?

MRI’s are not required, but are extremely helpful if they are done prior to the MVC Clinic assessment. Having an MRI completed prior to the assessment will cut down on the wait time if our physician has to refer the patient for an MRI prior to determining treatment options. Patient’s wishing to pursue an MRI prior to their appointment are encouraged to speak with their family physician who can complete a requisition. Private MRI’s may potentially be funded by a patient’s legal representative, if applicable.
