The Effectiveness of First and Repeat Cervical Facet Joint Radiofrequency Neurotomy Using a Multi-tined (Trident) Cannula and Perpendicular Approach – A Practice Audit

What question is this study trying to answer?

This study describes the effectiveness of performing cervical (neck) radiofrequency neurotomy using a multi-tined Trident cannula from a perpendicular approach following initial and repeat procedures.

What did we learn?

Following both initial and repeat cervical radiofrequency neurotomy procedures, it was observed that using the Trident cannula with a perpendicular approach results in statistically and clinically significant improvements in pain, disability, and quality of life.

Why is this relevant?

Chronic neck pain of facet joint origin is common for which radiofrequency neurotomy is a proven treatment. Performing the procedure using a multi-tined Trident cannula from a perpendicular approach is a recent innovation. This study provides “real world” evidence from a relatively large number of patients confirming the effectiveness of the technique following first and repeat treatments.
