Between each vertebrae there is a disc that serves several important functions including absorbing shock and pressure. When a disc degenerates or is damaged, pain often results. After your initial consult, if we suspect your pain is “discogenic” we may perform a discogram to confirm this diagnosis.

During a discogram one of our highly trained physicians will inject something called contrast, a special liquid that shows up well under fluoroscopy, into your disc and watch how it flows. Local anesthetic, or “freezing” may also be injected at the same time.

What you feel during these injections and how the contrast flows will give us a better idea of the condition of your disc and how we might treat it.
