Effectiveness of Multimodal Physiotherapy versus Usual Care in Chronic Whiplash-Associated Disorders With Facet-Mediated Pain Undergoing Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment: A Series of Single Case Experimental Designs (SCEDs)

What question is this study trying to answer?

In this study, we investigate whether or not the addition of a structured physiotherapy program assists with health outcomes for patients undergoing platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections as treatment for chronic whipash – associated disorders.

What did we learn?

Physiotherapy did not add any further immediate improvement to health outcomes following PRP in those with chronic whiplash injuries, although the majority of participants demonstrated improved longer-term outcomes, which included attendance at physiotherapy

Why is this relevant?

Initial improvement following PRP appears to be independent of physiotherapy, but sustained improvements appear to be correlated to physiotherapy attendance
