Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma for the Treatment of Cervical Facet Joint Mediated Pain in Whiplash-Associated Disorders: A Prospective Case Series of Long-Term Outcomes

What question is this study trying to answer?

Building on our previous research, we investigate if the effect of platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy in the neck for people with chronic whiplash injuries is maintained one year after receiving treatment.

What did we learn?

Over half of people in the study reported greater than 60% pain relief one year after receiving PRP treatment (with or without the addition of physiotherapy). 70% of people demonstrated 50% reduction of disability.

Why is this relevant?

The effects of PRP are sustainable in the majority of people with chronic neck pain following whiplash injuries. At first glance, the results exceed those demonstrated in radiofrequency ablation, although further research is required to validate these findings.
