Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) at Vivo Cura Health

PRP at Vivo Cura Health - Guided by the Best Available Evidence

Research suggests that not all PRP is created equal. Commercial kits are often used to prepare PRP. Although convenient, they have limitations including fixed settings that limit control over key variables — like PRP volume, and the platelet, leukocyte (white blood cell) and red blood cell content concentrations – all of which can influence clinical outcomes.

At Vivo Cura Health, years of in-house research have helped us develop proprietary PRP processing protocols that allow us to customize treatment to the condition being addressed. We also provide a treatment report detailing the platelet dose delivered, so you know exactly what was used in your procedure.

Vivo Cura PRP Follows Research

When it comes to PRP, how it’s made and delivered matters — and we are committed to follow the evidence of the best and most current scientific research.

RESEARCH SAYS

HOW VIVO CURA APPLIES IT

Dose and Concentration Matter

Higher platelet concentrations (e.g. >1billion/mL) and doses (e.g. ≥10 billion for the knee joint) are associated with better outcomes.

Proprietary Spin Method

Every PRP dose is customized using our proprietary spin protocol, developed to target evidence-based platelet dose thresholds. This allows us to tailor the PRP product to the condition being treated rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.

PRP Outperforms Alternatives

PRP performs better than cortisone or hyaluronic acid alone. Receiving a series of three PRP injections roughly 2-4 weeks apart has demonstrated an increase in the magnitude and duration of relief.

We Don’t Shy Away from Suggesting PRP

We highlight PRP because it offers specific advantages for certain conditions. PRP can reduce reliance on repeated cortisone injections, avoid their common downsides, and may provide longer-lasting benefits than cortisone or hyaluronic acid injections.

For Advanced Arthritis, the Bone Matters

PRP injections into both the joint cavity (intra-articular) and into the bone adjacent (intra-osseous) has been shown to be one of the only effective treatments of advanced osteoarthritis.

Intra-Articular and Intra-Osseous PRP

For patients with severe osteoarthritis, we offer the combination of intra-articular (into the joint) and intra-osseous (into the bone) injections. Vivo Cura Health is one of the only places in Canada offering intra-osseous PRP treatments.

Image-Guidance Matters

Image-guided injections are more accurate, lead to improved results and are more comfortable to the patient than injections done without image-guidance.

Image-Guided PRP Delivery

We have invested in high quality imaging technology (ultrasound and/or fluoroscopy), which our physicians use to deliver the optimized PRP precisely to the target.

PRP Combined With Rehab Optimizes Results

Evidence suggests that physical rehabilitation paired with PRP improves pain and function.

Rehab Is Built Into Our Care Model

Vivo Cura offers in-house physiotherapy following your treatments. Whether you work with our onsite therapists or your own, we support post-injection rehab to optimize results.

PRP With Hyaluronic Acid is More Effective

In the knee joint, combining PRP with hyaluronic acid (HA) enhances results, compared to PRP alone.

We offer PRP + HA Options

Hyaluronic acid can be added to treatments for patients with knee pain seeking enhanced long-term pain relief and improved functional outcomes.

PRP Packages: Guided by Research to Optimize Results

Our PRP packages are designed around the factors research suggests matter most: treatment precision, platelet dose, repeat injections and physiotherapy support.

Published Research from Vivo Cura Health

We don’t just follow the evidence—we help create it. Our team routinely tracks and measures patient outcomes because we believe it’s important to understand how these treatments are impacting the people we serve. Over more than a decade, this commitment has helped us build one of Canada’s largest orthobiologics outcome databases and publish peer-reviewed research that contributes to the growing evidence base in this field. Here are some of our published studies.
