What should one blog about that is not covered in detail elsewhere on the vast world wide web,
especially with search engines that now utilize AI to summarize information within seconds to
answer complex questions? Well, I’m not exactly sure, but in the interest of colleagues
requesting clinical pearls for treating actual patients in a way that is evidence-informed, we’ll
give this a go. This blog will largely focus on clinical entities involving whiplash-associated
disorders, orthobiologic medicine and where possible, how me might be able to get the right
patient to the right treatment within a timely manner. We will also highlight the clinical research
that we do which helps us determine if patients are improving adequately, or if our interventions
could be performed differently for a more refined outcome. Our clinic is blessed to have a
multidisciplinary focus to assist people with chronic musculoskeletal conditions that have largely
not responded to prior care, generally conservative in nature. Many of the people stepping
through our doors receive a collaborative evaluation, utilizing teamwork between
physiotherapists or athletic therapists and medical doctors, including physiatrists. We also have
the benefit of interventional suites to assist with determination of whether nociception is
contributing to a person’s pain experience, and also provide guided interventions to modulate
that nociception when appropriate. We also collect outcomes within a registry database on
patients undergoing procedures. Thus, all very good in theory, but tricky in practice. Pain is
complex and despite some very intelligent heads working together, solutions can be hard to
come by. And we don’t always agree. This blog will step into those spaces. Enjoy!!!
